Meet a New Plant: Pistacia vera
Pistacia vera, also known as the pistachio tree, belongs to the same family as the cashew and mango trees. A unique feature of the tree is that although it grows well under the hot sun, it can, surprisingly, tolerate temperatures as low as -10°C. Once planted, the tree takes about four to five years to produce pistachios. There are male and female pistachio trees. Both bear flowers but the female pistachio tree also bears flowers that have no petals. Only the female tree produces the nuts, but it will not bear the fruit if the male tree is not planted nearby.

Meet a New Bird: Alca torda
Alca torda, also known as razorbill or the lesser auk, is a seabird with a black-coloured back and white front body. It can be easily identified with the thin white line that passes through its beak and reaches the corner of its eye. It feeds on different types of fish, like herring and cod, as well as crustaceans and marine birds.

Meet a New Animal: Bradypus
Bradypus, also known as the three-toed sloth, is a herbivores mammal that is about 23ins long and weighs about 4kgs. The three-toed sloth is found in the rainforests of Central and South America. It is regarded as the world’s slowest mammal. It spends most of it life on treetops. It sleeps a lot—about 15 to 20 hours a day.
