The Burman family is not afraid of earthquakes. The Burmans live in a large, old home in Shillong and don’t intend to leave their beautiful surroundings for a safer house. When an earthquake strikes, the ground begins to shake, houses fall like packs of cards and half the town is reduced to rubble. However, the Burman family–which includes a grandmother, a grandfather and three grandchildren–stays put. While the grandfather misses everything because of his long mint baths, the grandmother is made to clean up after every unfortunate disaster. The story not only describes earthquakes in a fun and interesting way, but also defines the strong bond between the grandparents and their grandchildren.
The colourful and bright illustrations give further insight into this unusual family. Do you think the Burman family and its old house will survive the next big disaster? Read the book to find out.
