Here's some great news for parents and kids! Google recently launched Kiddle, a customised search engine for children that includes features like safe search, big thumbnails, large fonts and modified privacy settings. ‘Kiddle’ is seen written in the characteristic colourful Google style along with a red droid alien waiting to answer any questions. The search interface is largely the same as Google, but the search results are modified for kids.
For those who are curious, Kiddle explains the logic behind its search results on its ‘About’page. The search engine looks for safe sites and pages written specifically for kids. These pages are handpicked and checked by Kiddle editors and will be featured in the first three results.
It was also announced that Kiddle will not collect any identifiable information and its logs will be deleted every 24 hours. What's more, Kiddle will not permit kids to type anything unsuitable. If anything unsuitable is typed, it will flash a message, ‘Oops, looks like your query contained some bad words. Please try again!’
