Studying can be tough when concentration doesn’t come that easy. Here are a few strategies you can use to help your brain retain information quicker and easier.

1. Summarise
Summarising reduces the amount of material you have to remember. Once you have studied a section, reduce it to key words that give you a gist of what the section talks about. This will help you remember your answers better.

2. Recite Loudly
Speaking out loud instead of simply reading will help you remember and retain faster. When you read loudly, pay attention to what you’re saying. Repeat it a few times until you can recall the information easily and accurately.

3. Make Abbreviations
If you have a long formula or too many points under a given topic, pick the initials of the points and create an abbreviation out of it. This helps you remember all the points in the answer. It will also ensure that you don’t leave out any point that is essential. Before you write your answer, you can put down the abbreviation in pencil, write down all the points and then erase the abbreviation.

4. Teach What You Have Learned
The best way to understand something is to try and teach someone else. You can help a friend with theorems by explaining them in your style. This way, you will remember the theorems really well. While teaching, several questions that don’t occur to you initially come to the forefront and can be resolved.

5. Team Up with a Friend 
Teaming up with a friend is a good way to study. The mind absorbs more information via discussions and debates. You can help one another with difficult concepts, share ideas, quiz one another and solve several mathematical problems together.

6. Draw and Learn
Sometimes, if you don’t get a concept, break it down and learn. Visualise the information and draw it on a piece of paper. Read the information and explain it through your diagram.

7. Discover New Ways to Learn 
Finally, you can always find new techniques that work for you and use them to your advantage. For example, some people like to walk while studying as it helps them concentrate.
